We are extremely proud to announce that the President of the European Commission, Ms Ursula von der Leyen, has become patron of the 2021-2022 class of the Master’s Degree in European Affairs at the Sorbonne University.
Originally a trained physician, she has been a top-ranking German politician for 14 years, including as Germany’s Defense Minister, before assuming the role of the first female President of the European Commission. She aspires to a Europe that is carbon-neutral by 2050, fit for the digital age and resilient to global challenges.
The purpose of our Master is to teach students how to become European experts and leaders, through a multitude of theoretical lessons, supplemented by practical workshops led by renowned professionals. Through the diversity of our origins, our academic and linguistic skills, we reflect the European unity which we want to promote and defend.
This patronage reflects the close alignment between President’s commitment to promoting European values and our student’s engagement in promoting those same values through the Master’s Association (M.A.E.S), which aims to democratize European issues and raise young people’s awareness of the challenges the European Union is facing today.
As we are ready to embark into this journey, we are very grateful and excited to have Ms Ursula von der Leyen joining us as a patron going forward!
